The city limits stretch from the Pacific Ocean (on the west) all the way to the San Francisco Bay (to the east). The city has more than 3.1 million square feet of retail space, and out of all the cities within the county Daly City has the biggest taxable retail sales.
The second largest sector in Daly City's economy is in the medical business. The largest employer within the city is Seton Medical Center, who has roughly 1,500 employees. There are 357 beds within the hospital, and it holds the reputation for being amongst the top medical facilities in the United States. There are several other medical institutions within the area, such as the Physician's Medical Center, San Francisco Heart Institute, San Francisco Neuro-Skeletal Imaging Center, Spine Care Medical Group and Seton Medical Office. The newest facility in the area is the Kaiser Permanente, that has 130,000 square feet of medical offices and clinics. It could be located at 395 Hickey Boulevard near the I-280.
The labour force within the area is usually well educated because of the proximity of educational institutes. In a ten mile radius are six universities or colleges and an additional twelve more can be found within a 50-mile radius.
With a median age in the city about 35 years of age, the majority of the residents 78%) are over the age of 18 years of age. The population over the age of sixty is surprisingly just 12 percent. Virtually half of the workforce works in the local economy.
