California State has a somewhat diverse weather conditions with most of California have dry summer months and rainy, cool winters. Along the coast, summer fog is created by the cool currents. As you move more inland, the winters tend to be colder and the summer months hotter. There tends to be more rainfall in the northern areas of the state than the southern. Among the rainiest areas are situated on California's mountain slopes which face west, while the mountain ranges east sides produce a rain shadow, creating expansive deserts. Death Valley is a low-elevation desert, producing the hottest temperatures on the continent. Eastern California's higher elevation deserts produce cold winter months and hot summer months. The Central Valley has a Mediterranean weather but greater extremes than the shore. The Sierra Nevada Mountains have mild to moderate snow during wintertime and heat in the summer months.
